We engage and provide a dance education to students of all abilities and identities – one that supplements, motivates, and strengthens their artistic goals and skills. Our curriculum prepares emerging artists for the technical, artistic, and mental challenges of dance and life by introducing them to the vast repertoire of classical ballet.

Our classes include live piano accompaniment, small groups that provide ample one-on-one attention, and new state-of-the-art studios conveniently located on Madison’s west side. We provide the tools and environment necessary to help students achieve excellence in a manner that increases self-confidence and aids them as they face challenges throughout other aspects of their lives.
Based on 20th century methodology devised by the masters of our art form, we establish a strong technical foundation focused on proper placement, technical precision, musicality, and artistic confidence. With workshops and classes in technique, pointe, and variations that set immediate and long-range goals, SMB students feel uplifted to pursue their goals of technical and artistic mastery for years to come.
Children’s Division
UP TO AGE 8
The Children's Division provides students with a solid foundation in ballet fundamentals, inspiring a lifelong love for dance.
These classes are a prelude to formal ballet instruction, introducing children to music and movement through a structured progression that stresses creativity and group interaction.

The School Division offers five levels of well-coordinated, progressive curriculum in strong, classical technique.
Students follow a structured sequence of training stages designed to increase their technical skills, stamina, and discipline in accordance with their age and physical development.

AGES 13 AND UP (based on level)
The Trainee Program offers advanced, rigorous programming focused on preparing each student for a career as a professional dancer.
Students train daily to master advanced technical skills, consistency, musicality, articulation and natural expression within the technical parameters of the art form.
With classes for ages 18 months to adults, and tracks for both recreational and pre-professional focuses, there is a class for everyone at the School of Madison Ballet –– We even provide drop-in and trial classes!
