Andrew Demakakos
Astoria, NY
Andrew Demakakos is a native New Yorker who grew up in Astoria, Queens. A recent graduate of the Conservancy of Dance at Purchase College (2023), he holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Ballet. Andrew has danced numerous new works with the Purchase Dance Company, including those composed by Eve Chan, Michelle Ulrich Thompson, and Christopher Rudd. He also performed in a staging of George Balanchine’s Serenade as a waltz couple. As a choreographer, Andrew was selected to be a part of Steps on Broadway Performance Lab where he showcased his contemporary ballet, Rollercoaster of Love.
He began dancing at age 8 when he joined his local dance studio, Callina’s School of Dance. After seven years at Callina’s, he pursued his creative studies further and was accepted to The Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan. He entered as a vocal major but ultimately found dancing was his passion and transferred to a dance major. At this same time he began training at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, studying with Kristen McGrew, Pedro Ruis, and Lisa Hurd. Through high school he attended the Harlem School of the Arts as a prep student for two years. In his final two years of high school he trained at the Rock School in Philadelphia in their summer intensives under Bo and Stephanie Spassof.
His passion for dance has driven Andrew to pursue the art whole-heartedly and he is excited to continue his career with Madison Ballet. He looks forward to sharing his love of ballet by expanding beyond its original construct.
