Students become artists in our Trainee Division

Placement in this division is by audition or invitation only.

Madison Ballet's Trainee Division offers a rigorous program focused on preparing each student for a career in professional dance. Students in this division train daily to master advanced technical skills, consistency, musicality, articulation, and natural expression within the technical parameters of the art form. Through this commitment, artists develop a foundation on which they can build their professional career.

Benefits of An Elevated Program

As one of the most highly respected dance schools in the midwest, SMB’s Trainee Division offers remarkable value for its pre-professional students.

Each week, trainees are instructed in a customized schedule comprised of technique, pointe, and specialty classes. Professional accompaniment and personal mentorship from the School Principal further enrich the educational experience.

Finally, those in the Trainee Division are offered the unique opportunity to develop valuable relationships with Madison Ballet’s professional company by taking class alongside company members and apprentices, attending performances and, in exceptional circumstances, supporting the company onstage.

Take the next step

Students should be advanced-level dancers who are either in high school or have graduated. If in high school, dancers must be able to accommodate the Trainee Schedule. Female dancers must have a minimum of four years of rigorous pointe training.

If you are interested in being considered, please submit the following to richard@madisonballet.org:

  • Resume

  • Headshot & dance photo

  • Video link demonstrating classwork (5 minutes max; including tendu/degage from 5th, fondu and grand battements at barre, center work including adagio, turns, petite and grand allegro jumps, fouettés [women] and double tours [men]), one classical variation and one contemporary solo that best represents your abilities)
