Madison Ballet to stage ‘Nutcracker’ for Afghan refugees at Fort McCoy
“Madison Ballet wanted to bring a bit of magic to the Afghan refugee families at Fort McCoy. Next week, the nonprofit company will build a stage in a warehouse, bus in 55 people and put up four performances of the second act of “The Nutcracker,” sugar plums and all, for 1,200 refugees.
“It’s our way of welcoming this group of people, and trying to provide some joy as they’re waiting to be resettled and start the next chapter of their lives,” said Jonathan Solari, CEO of Madison Ballet.”
