Reflections and Transitions as We Look Ahead to a New Year

As we celebrate a new year, we at Madison Ballet are looking back with gratitude on the beginning of a 40th anniversary season that has been successful beyond our expectations. From our Lift Every Voice film series to the outdoor productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, from The Nutcracker’s triumphant return to Overture to the inspiring experiences at Fort McCoy, we’re proud of what we’ve done in 2021 and excited for what’s ahead.

In that same spirit of grateful reflection, we have news to share about the team at Madison Ballet.

After over 16 years of being an essential part of Madison Ballet, Gretchen Bourg will be moving on from her role as Managing Director as of January 7th. We are all endlessly grateful for the immeasurable effort she has made over the years to ensure that our community could always share in the magic and joy of dance. Put simply, there wouldn’t be a Madison Ballet today without her and she will be deeply missed. Please join me in recognizing the brilliant contributions Gretchen has made and wishing her the best on her next endeavors.

While we say farewell to one colleague, we are happy to congratulate others as they take on new roles and help pave the way for our future.

Jacob Ashley has danced with Madison Ballet for 15 years, and has done so beautifully. He is a constant source of encouragement and inspiration for his fellow dancers and the students of the School of Madison Ballet. Now, we are thrilled to announce that he will lead our school as its new Director. His commitment to the personal growth and artistry of each individual student will no doubt permeate the whole organization and be at the center of his vision for our educational programs.

Meranda Dooley joined the team in 2019, and has become one of the most visible and valuable members of our team, supporting many of our school activities and other patron services. She will be stepping into the new role of Director of Operations.

I'm excited to see all of my colleagues flourish in their new roles. I know you will feel the support of their work as you return to our stages and our school in the year ahead.
